Jackie Dickinson (Dealer 1710) grew up in the Ithaca and Cortland area and studied Economics and Art History at Wells College. As a student at Wells she would tromp up to the old college dump and haul back wonderful metal relics like theater chair parts, car & tractor parts and building hardware to use in her 3-D design courses. The figural sculptures she made from that time are some of the most treasured art pieces in her studio today.
After living in Boston for a while she returned to the area in 1990 and settled in Poplar Ridge. Jackie began selling used goods in 1999 when she and her husband opened Dinosaur Dry Goods in King Ferry, NY. What started as a used clothing store quickly morphed into a shop with more vintage and collectible items along with a focus on gently-used boutique clothing. Today Dinosaur Dry Goods is mostly an online venture. Jackie has a great eye and she buys and collects what she loves. You’ll find her home decorated with a collectibles from buttons and clothes pins to doll heads and Syracuse china creamers.
Good design, humor, color and tactility. These are the things that appeal to Jackie when she’s hunting for items in her space. She sells a general line of antique and vintage pieces that range from brightly colored kitchen linens, vintage clothing and cottage furniture to large intricate pieces of architectural salvage and industrial items. Her space is warm and inviting and always contains something delightfully unexpected. One week her walls will be covered in vintage game boards and the next week you’ll find an ornate Japanese kimono and vintage purses in their place. Jackie joined FOUND in September 2011 as a case dealer and moved into a floor space in January 2012. In 2011 she also joined the Poplar Ridge Fire Department joking that the solution to her mid-life crisis was to drive fast red trucks! In truth she says she’d been enamored with fire trucks since she was a kid living near the Tioga Street fire station in Ithaca. Currently Jackie is in the midst of a Certified First Responder course which is the beginning of an additional career for her as an EMT.
We’re thrilled to have Jackie in the shop. She takes advantage of the our dealer work credit and you’ll often find her on the floor opening cases and greeting customers with her warm presence, great sense of humor and that smile we love.
