Alice Gant: My Art’s an Open Book

Our artist in the Gallery@FOUND for the month of May is textile artist, Alice Gant.

Her new show, My Art’s an Open Book, opens in the Gallery@FOUND on Wednesday, April 30th and will hang in the Gallery through Sunday, June 1st. Alice Gant has been sewing banners for years and years and years. Ms. Gant exhibits banners anywhere there is an attractive empty wall. In March 2014 she was at Hopshire Brewery in Freeville, NY and last year she exhibited at the Conoco-Phillips Gallery at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska.

Usually Alice’s banners are large and vertical. For her show in the Gallery@FOUND Alice stitched several long horizontal pieces each of which is folded into a book, meant to be read left to right. Sewing books began about a year ago, following the birth of her grandson. She enjoyed the project so much, she decided to design and create additional books for the Gallery@FOUND.
