DEDE HATCH: Patina
The Gallery at FOUND is pleased to welcome a new show by Ithaca area photographer Dede Hatch entitled Patina. Dede’s compelling images reflect her interest in and fondness for “old” objects that are adorned with time’s patina. The show opens on Wednesday, May 18th with an artist’s reception on Thursday, May 19th from 5-7 pm. Come meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments and tasty treats. The show will be on display in the Gallery through June 12th. FOUND will remain open during the artist’s reception.
The photography of Dede Hatch has been part of the visual landscape for 30+ years. She had her first exhibition, as well as her first commercial advertising shoot, at the age of 16. Throughout her education, art and photography were central and she has exhibited widely. Over time, she served as Staff Photographer at 2 colleges before launching Dede Hatch Photography in 1988. Since then her work has been published in numerous books and magazines, and has taken its place on the walls of many homes and institutions including the Johnson Art Museum at Cornell University, and the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. She diligently and concurrently navigates the paths of personal work and commercial work, and rejoices when the 2 come together as one.
Here’s what Dede has to say about her work and this show: I am drawn to “old” things. They hold mysteries of the past. And by the simple fact of their survival, they are full and honorable participants in the present. They are adorned with time’s patina – a surface quality that receives light the way a stage receives the feet of a dancer. In this light, their memories have a chance of being brought to life in the imagination of the viewer.
