Roy McCarthy: Atmospheric Graffiti

October 17, 2012 - November 11, 2012

Roy McCarthy speaks about his new show ATMOSPHERIC GRAFFITI:

When I was a teenager I could draw really well. When I was in my twenties I couldn’t. That’s when my creativity changed directions. I began to build things and rip things apart, plant things and rip things out until I was happy with what I saw. The one consistent aspect of art that has always been with me has been photography and I usually have my cameras with me most of the time. At the age of 47 I quit work and went back to school to study digital art. I was told by my art professors that I lacked focus in my portfolios and frankly, I’m fine with that.

I usually take photographs while I’m on my way to do something else and I never know when I’ll run into something that I need to record. As a result, I get lots of different images related to lots of different things. I am especially interested in matting and framing my own prints with vintage and antique frames that I’ve restored or by making my own frames that look vintage.

Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday, October 18th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served!
