Victoria Romanoff: Remainders Resummoned by Romanoff

June 15, 2011 - July 10, 2011

The Gallery at FOUND is proud to welcome a new show by Ithaca area artist Victoria Romanoff. Victoria’s work conjures up lost civilizations, improbable resorts, crumbling monuments, over-the-top architectural follies, opinionated statuary and other imaginary settings. Her sculpture is fashioned from recycled elements; discarded wood, architectural remnants, cardboard tubes, old ropes, washboards and other flotsam and jetsam. Her paper mosaics, as well, are all reborn from scraps cut out of larger creations.

Victoria has long been committed to saving Ithaca’s remaining landmarks, and in addition to her sculpture, this show will feature some of her historic preservation posters that were made at a time when the images were created by hand.

Ms. Romanoff received by BA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Cornell University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the northeast including the Roberson Art Center, the Cooperstown Art Association, the Everson, Johnson, Schweinfurth and De Cordova art museums. She has also been in shows at The International Center for Art and Culture in Rome, Italy, the Audubon Artists annual exhibition in New York city and the Newport, RI Art Association. She has worked to preserve and restore local landmarks such as the Clinton House, Clinton Hall, Boardman House, and a number of Cornell fraternities and sororities, including Ezra Cornell’s grand villa “Llenroc”.

The show opens Wednesday, June 15th. Please join us for an opening reception on Thursday, 16th from 5-7pm. Stop by to meet the artist, see the show and enjoy delicious conversation and tasty treats. The show will be on display in the Gallery through July 17th.
